'Prestige Collection' on Full Flex Audio celebrates some of our favourite artists that have released on the label in the last 10 years. As the release date comes ever closer (July 8th), we want to get in touch with some of the artists, and also exclusively premiere their songs early, on this blog post!
CadoFox:
Q: Which of your past releases on FFA means the most to you and why?
"I think it naturally has to be my debut EP, Codachrome. This release marked when I really solidified the decopunk/cassette future thematic direction I wanted to take my project, and was the first big release that I feel really embodies my love for exploring and experimenting with combining various genres and styles of electronic music with the language of classic and contemporary jazz. FFA truly helped make it a special release, and I'm honored that it is part of this wonderful label's history!"
Marrow, VYON & Irony:
Q: How has your sound changed since your very first release on FFA?
VYON: "My sound has changed a bit since my first release on FFA (‘Pursued by Nothing’). That was one of the first tracks I made in the style that felt somewhat like my own, so it was still a lot of discovery without really knowing where I was heading. Since then, I’ve discovered a deep passion for sound design — for example, crazy chains and heavy resampling to keep generating the weirdest and most creative sounds I can. I love thinking that there are endless possibilities. That being said, I think my sound will keep evolving, as I don’t really aim for any specific genre or concept when I make a song. I just love experimenting with all the power that modern software offers, and I love playing with music in weird and unconventional ways."
Irony: "My sound has evolved significantly since ‘Abyssal Gateway’, which was not only my first release on FFA, but also my first release ever. Over time, I've developed a more personal and refined way of telling stories and expressing my vision through music. My sound design has become much more advanced, allowing me to explore deeper and more intricate sonic landscapes. I'm incredibly grateful to Martin and the entire FFA team for supporting me from the beginning. They gave me the space to grow and share important steps of my artistic journey—especially with ‘The Flesh Wastelands’, a project I’m still deeply proud of. ‘Shadowbox’ feels like a milestone. It’s probably the apex of my dubstep production so far—a collaboration with two artists I truly admire. It also serves as a bridge between my past and future work, blending elements of my roots with the mindset and techniques I’ve developed today."
Marrow: "It hasn’t been a long time since ‘Bounce64’ however it has felt like it sometimes; the core of what I feel my sound represents has remained unchanged, my execution improves each track. FFA has been a great testing ground for bringing my music to a bigger audience and I will always be grateful to Martin and the team who allowed me the initial chance and asked me back for such a special occasion alongside two fantastic producers for ‘Shadowbox’ and the ‘Prestige Collection’ as a whole. To answer the question more specifically, since the start of 2024, I pledged to no longer use samples. This means my entire process is from the ground up and allows me to flex creative muscles I couldn’t before through a far more involved and unique process - everything you will be hearing from me is created from zero by me with vanishingly few exceptions as my sound design skills improve. In my mind, this gives me an edge and although painstaking, allows me to merge the creative composition side of my brain with the creative sound selection side leaving me prouder and more satisfied with each track I release."
AKRVSIA:
Q: How did you first discover FFA and what drew you towards the label?
"I first discovered FFA from the Riot’s Revenge YouTube channel because I was trying to find some cool underground music after coming back to dubstep at the time. I remember the first song I heard was Katch - Mass Extinction over six years ago. Crazy to think I have a whole EP and many other songs on this label I found all those years ago."
'Prestige Collection' drops on all stores, July 8th, on our 10th anniversary as a record label!
