The spookiest day of the year is nearly upon us, delivering 10 songs straight to your Halloween night from Lurid Tales 7.
We've pitched one question to some of the debuting artists on FFA, who are featuring on the label for the first time. Check out what their favourite horror movies are, what sounds their song would make if it came alive, and more!
As well as finding out some devilish answers from our artists, hear extended previews into each song from our debuting artists!
DOUR - What horror movie monster best represents your style as an artist?
"Michael Myers. A monster in his own right, I feel as though overall he is the one I mimic closely. I don’t really speak much or have a huge social media presence, which resembles his silent demeanor. But, where the monster comes in is my music. It speaks for itself."
Aphonic - What do you hope people feel when they hear your track for the first time?
"I want listeners to feel as if they've wandered into the domain of this mystic, cryptic, manic entity. I want this energy of unpredictability and sporadic will to cause fear and a certain “I shouldn’t be here” feeling. I want people to embrace that. Embrace exploration even if it’s dangerous and come face to face with chaos and darkness, knowing that you’ll make it out."
CVRR,ION - If your sounds in ‘MANANANGGAL’ could speak, what would they say?
“human innards mmmmm” (demonic voice)"
lateeyes - Favourite spooky/horror film? (if that’s what you’re into!)
"Okay this depends on the period of horror films.
If you’re looking about pre-70s, this is definitely Nosferatu, a revolutionary horror film that definitely set the standards for modern films today.
From the classics of the 70s to the 90s this goes to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it is an absolute staple, introducing the iconic character Leatherface to horror culture and it doesn’t rely much on gore for shock, unlike its later films.
If you’re talking about modern films, then this would have to go to Midsommar. Ari Aster is an amazing director (this is why I recommend Hereditary), with a unique style of cinematography, and a story that feels conflicting when you watch, and you can hyper-analyse certain scenes and generally get so much out of it."
Azernion - What sub genre of music would ghosts listen to?
"I’m gonna say something like Jiiko’s music tho it’s not really a sub-genre hehehe."
Portals! - Which classic horror villain would secretly be an insane DJ?
"prolly jason voorhees from friday the 13th, cuz his mask could be a dj alias."
Lethall - Do you believe certain sounds can actually make people feel fear?
"Yeah absolutely! Most of the horror media I’ve consumed thrives when the sound design and music sets a tone such as the games Silent Hill 2 and Amnesia The Bunker. The spooky atmospheric sounds make you feel really on edge and without them the experience would feel like a shell of what it could be. Another example of this that is a bit different, is the reaper sounds from Mass Effect. The sounds themselves have this super heavy and intimidating sound to them, but when you learn more about the game’s universe it becomes genuinely scary to hear."
Kxhai - Describe your Lurid Tales 7 song using only 3 spooky words!
"beautiful, little, nightmare."
